Good-Night

Sydney Dayre

Good-night, pretty Sun, good-night;

I have watched your purple and golden light.

While you are sinking away,

And some one has just been telling me,

You're making, over the shinning sea,

Another beautiful day:

That just at the time I am going to sleep,

The children there are taking a peep,

At your face-beginning to say,

“Good morning!”

just when I say,“Good-night!”

Now, beautiful Sun, if they've told me right,

I wish you would say good-morning for me,

To all the little ones over the sea.

晚安，美丽的太阳，晚安；

我看到了你紫金色的光芒，

而你却快要消失踪影。

曾经有人对我说过，

你会在清辉闪烁的海洋的另一头，

创造另一个美丽的白昼：

那时，我已爬上了我的小床，

而另一边的孩子们却在偷看你的脸，

在我对你说“晚安”时，

那里的孩子正要轻道

“早安！”

如果他们说的是真的，那么美丽的太阳，

我希望你能把我的早安

带给海那边的孩子们。
